Idol group 9nine will be releasing their new single, “Ryusei no Kuchizuke“, on June 20th. This song has been chosen as the theme song for TBS‘ upcoming drama, ‘Houkago wa Mystery to tomo ni‘!
The drama is based on a comical novel by ‘Natotoki wa Dinner no Ato de‘ author Higashigawa Tokuya. It will begin airing on April 23rd, and features Kawaguchi Haruna, Hayami Mokomichi,Iriyama Noriko, and Takashima Masanobu as cast members.
“Ryusei no Kuchizuke” was written especially for the drama out of the producers’ request. He stated, “The protagonist Kirigamine Ryou thinks that she will be able to change the world with her beliefs. She’s positive and walks her own path without caring about what others think of her. We want a song that people can hum to when that protagonist solves cases.”
The producers also requested, “The protagonist is a girl, but she calls herself ‘boku’, so we want the words ‘boku’ and ‘bokura’ to be included in the lyrics.”
9nine has previously provided theme songs for the drama series ‘Boku no Himitsu Heiki‘ back in 2009, and the special drama ‘Ranma 1/2‘ in 2011. This will be the group’s first time to provide a theme song for a drama series with their current members.
Additionally, 9nine is scheduled to hold their first hall one-man live, “Seinenkan no 9nine“, on May 6th at Nippon Seinenkan.
